Critical Thinking was new to me this year. I didn’t know quite what to expect but I am really pleased I took it. I have developed my communication skills which help me in my English and Media subjects here at College, and will definitely come in useful when I go to University for interview.

The Honours Programme is designed to meet the particular needs of students with high achievement or potential.  It aims to foster confidence, ambition and academic disciplines with opportunities for sport, music, voluntary and community work, alongside the development of appropriate study skills, to prepare students for application to the most prestigious universities.  Honours students receive wide ranging support and guidance from a specialist team and are encouraged to develop specific interests and aptitudes beyond the basic requirements of the syllabus.

Features of the Honours Programme

Honours students are tutored in a specialist group so that their particular higher education and careers needs can be addressed

  • In Year 12 all Honours students take four AS (or equivalent) subjects of their own choice plus AS Critical Thinking
  • In Year 13 Honours students have the opportunity to complete an Extended Project Qualification (as part of the AQA Baccalaureate) alongside their A2 subject choices
  • Honours students have the opportunity to visit prestigious universities and will receive specific university interview preparation
  • Honours students have the opportunity to to take part in a wide range of enrichment activities of their choice

Entry Profile

In addition to a commitment to the principles of the programme, students are likely to have very high GCSE grades.

Following initial interviews the college will identify potential Honours students.  These students are specially interviewed at enrolment in August and invited to join the Programme.
