Exam results 2011

High grades and aspirations soar as students celebrate

St John Rigby College’s students achieved a pass rate in excess of 97% in their Advanced Level courses for the third consecutive year.  This included 23 out of 36 courses having a pass rate of 100%, with many courses achieving this for the third consecutive year.  Given the current competition for University places and for jobs, the best news for students was that high grade passes increased by 4%, building further on the 5% high grade improvement that was realised last summer.

Principal Peter McGhee said: “We are delighted that these students have achieved such high grades.  Our students’ high grades have exceeded 40% for the first time and this represents an increase of nearly 10% over the last two years.  Given that some of our students may not have been afforded the opportunity to continue their studies at other colleges, this is a significant achievement and I am delighted that our staff are able to share in these celebrations.  We know the importance of being competitive within the current environment and it is wonderful to see so many of our students being rewarded for their hard work over the last two years.

“I hope that students are as proud as I am of these achievements.  The improvement in grades being achieved will make a big difference to these young people as they progress.  There were some outstanding individual results with many students gaining top grades in all of their subjects and surpassing target grade expectations.

“People who work in education do so to make a difference to the lives of young people.  At St John Rigby College we do this in many different ways and the celebration of their achievements and seeing our students move on in life is the culmination of our work with them.  The nature of examinations is such that some students have to face disappointments.  We will work closely with those who need further support, advice and guidance whilst preparing for and looking forward to the next group of young people whose aspirations we hope to raise.”
