The students in Angers

A group of AS and A2 French students spent their half-term on the first leg of an exchange with the prestigious Lycée David d’Angers in Wigan’s twin town of Angers.

After an exhausting but enjoyable 13 hour drive we arrived at the college to be welcomed by the English staff and the host families. The students met up with their French friends with whom they had been corresponding by email for several weeks and spent the rest of the weekend with them.
Monday morning was a bit of a culture shock as French school starts at 8:00 am! Our students took part in 2 hours of classes including science and athletics!

For the rest of the week various visits had been organised for us including an early morning trip to the local “boulangerie” where a very friendly baker made us chocolate-chip baguettes! We also went on a tour of the Cointreau factory, to several museums, the castle, the National Stud Farm and a wine-tasting at a local “cave”.

The students bonded with their French friends and spent all their free time together, going shopping, to the cinema and bowling. Everyone was very sad to leave on the Saturday morning but they are now eagerly awaiting the return trip from the French students to Wigan on March 29th. A bientôt!.
