Eleven Year 12 students recently visited the University of Cambridge as part of an exciting initiative between the University and St John Rigby College. The initiative is a unique partnership designed to support very able students in their application to Cambridge and other prestigious universities.
During the two day visit the students attended Masterclasses in English, History, Mathematics and Science delivered by Cambridge academics. The classes provided students with opportunities to acquire a deeper and broader understanding of their subjects. There were also sessions on preparing for the university interview and chances to meet with current Cambridge undergraduates to hear about life at university.
SJR History student Robert Culshaw said: “it was an amazing opportunity to experience university, and to hear tips on how to prepare for the all important interview. I am very lucky to be at a college that has got this unique relationship with Cambridge.”
St John Rigby College has been selected by Cambridge University as one of four schools and colleges in the northwest to be part of their exclusive HE+ Programme. The other institutions are Loreto College, Loreto Grammar Schools for Girls and Bolton Sixth Form College.
