A team of students who are following the NVQ Football Coaching course at SJR have won a prestigious annual tournament. The college team triumphed in a closely contested final in the Bolton Wanderers Inter-college Football Tournament.
The competition consisted of three groups, and the winner of each group (plus the best runner up) played in the semi final of the competition, SJR won two and drew one of their games in the group stages, thereby winning the group. We then played Bolton Wanderers International Academy in the semi final.
The Bolton team consisted of players from all over the world (some of whom represent their own countries internationally). After a really tight game, SJR triumphed with a 1-0 win to book their place in the final against South Cheshire College. The final finished 1-1 and SJR won 7-6 on penalties, with Jamie Hutchinson hitting the winning penalty.
Well done to the lads who conducted themselves fantastically throughout the day.
